Centreville’s Tim Ritter fell in the opening round of the Virginia Junior Match Play Championship Thursday at Nansemond River Golf Club in Suffolk. Ritter, the lone player from Northern Virginia who qualified for match play, lost to Brandon Grogan of Martinsville, 4 and 3.
In Friday’s semifinals, Alex Taylor (Roanoke) faces Bryce Cope (Virginia Beach) and Dylan Jensen (Ridgeway) plays Alex Lloyd (Virginia Beach). Jensen and Taylor, seeded No. 15 and No. 16 respectively, were the last two players to qualify for match play, surviving a playoff on Wednesday.
