…Got an email from someone in Cleveland this morning saying that local radio stations were speculating on the Redskins being interested in Brady Quinn. But a Redskins source said there was zero chance of that happening. So that’s that.
…DE Phillip Daniels (biceps), DT Cornelius Griffin (elbow), LT Chris Samuels (neck) and P Hunter Smith (groin) did not practice today. DT Albert Haynesworth (ankle), DT Anthony Montgomery (knee), RB Clinton Portis (calf) were limited. Coach Jim Zorn said Griffin, Haynesworth and Portis will play Sunday.
…I’m worried about Chris Samuels. Nobody is saying that he’ll miss more than this week, and hopefully that’s the case, but here’s what coach Joe Bugel had to say about him today: “It will take some time for the evaluations, but it’s not over till it’s over. I love that kid so much. I feel so badly for him because he is a great player.”
Just sounds like they’re bracing for him being out a while. However, Bugel later said he wasn’t concerned about Samuels for the long-term. But when you’re dealing with a stinger when you already have a narrowing of the spinal column, you have to cross your fingers.
…Will Montgomery will start at right guard ahead of Chad Rinehart. The Redskins say Rinehart has a shoulder issue, which is why he isn’t starting.
“You know, it’s cool,” said Montgomery, a Centreville native. “Sometimes people make more out of it than what it is. It’s a game. I’ll go play a game on Sunday. I’ll go block guys, I’ll pass protect and run block. I’ll go out cool, calm and collective and go perform.”
…More Buges: “The bookends, I don’t worry about them.”
…And even more Buges, on Clinton Portis saying teams will now attack the line: “Every week no matter who you have in there you’re going to attack. I know Clinton is a great orator and he has all the answers, but we face that every week. If you’re scared to death, don’t show up. Don’t get on the plane or the bus. I don’t worry about this group. They’re a fun bunch to coach.”
…Mike Sellers blames the media … Chris Cooley says he isn’t talking (maybe just today, we’ll see)… Fred Smoot keeps declining requests… Yes, this is a team ready to turn it around. It will get worse if the losing continues. The genesis for Sellers is the story that broke at the end of last week that he and Portis had a verbal exchange. Only two other players were in the locker room at the time.
“Whatever happens good or bad we have to keep it in house,” DE Andre Carter said.
Carter’s dad, Rubin, helped teach him how to deal with the media.
“I take everything with a grain of salt and move on,” he said. “It’s tough to win in the NFL and it’s tough in anything that you do and enjoy and take pride in. There’s always someone that criticizes you. So you just have to be a man and say I’m doing my best.”
As DeAngelo Hall said, “I [couldn’t] care less what you guys say. They’re gonna love you and hate you and they’ll love you again. It comes with the job. Fans say all kinds of stuff at you on the road and you can’t go in the stands and whoop on them. It comes with the job. If you’re that thin skinned you’re probably in the wrong profession if you let the media tell you you can’t play and that we’re not any good. If you believe that you’re weak minded.”
