So what’s become of the dramatis personae from D.C.’s most memorable scandal since Clinton-Lewinsky?
Kirk Fordham, who was Foley’s chief of staff and confidante for 10 years, had moved on to the office of Rep. Tom Reynolds, R-N.Y., by the time the scandal hit, but he was a central player nonetheless. Fordham told investigators that he had warned then-Speaker Dennis Hastert about Foley’s behavior years earlier. Fordham has since founded his own public affairs firm, Rock Creek Strategies.
Elizabeth Nicolson, who was Foley’s final chief of staff, took a position in March as government relations director at the Association for Manufacturing Technology.
Joe Negron, the Republican who was forced to run for Foley’s seat as a substitute (Foley’s name was still on the ballot), continues his legal practice in Florida. He lost to Democrat Tim Mahoney.
As for the principal himself, apart from a couple of surprise sightings around D.C., Foley has stayed out of the nation’s capital, even selling his Capitol Hill home. After a stint at an Arizona rehab clinic, he’s said to be back in Florida, laying low.
