Lakers are ironing out the details

There’s a certain swagger associated with the Los Angeles Lakers, a glitz and glamour to match their hometown and biggest celebrity fans. That persona gets a little bit more difficult to sustain when the coach walks into Staples Center with a suit over his shoulder and an ironing board under his arm — still wrapped in plastic.

But it turns out that Mike Brown made a quick stop at Target on Monday night before coaching his new team for the first time in its preseason home game against the Clippers. He likes to press his own shirts in his office.

There’s nothing wrong with a humble approach, and Brown may have no choice as he tries to get the most out of a team that all of a sudden is the second-most important in its own market — and played without Kobe Bryant (wrist) in its preseason finale.

But the Lakers are supposed to be Showtime, not TLC. It’s hard to imagine that Pat Riley and Phil Jackson didn’t take extensive advantage of valet service.
