Corbett witnesses compassionate conservatism

The biggest guest at Tuesday’s White House ceremony pardoning two turkeys was not A.) the president B.) the turkeys, “May” and “Flower” C.) those adorable children from Campfire USA.

It was … John Corbett? The “Sex and the City” star stood off to the side (apparently, too cool to be troubled with a tie when visiting the White House), next to White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten. The two are good friends and actually share something in common: Bo Derek. Bolten has frequently been seen alongside Derek (but has never confirmed any romantic kindlings) and Corbett is currently dating the “10” actress. Corbett was in town for a Monday night gig at the Birchmere with his band, The John Corbett Band.

On Monday night, first lady Laura Bush was in attendance as her friend, El Paso native Adair Margo, received Mexico’s Order of the Aztec Eagle Award, the highest honor awarded by Mexico to non-Mexicans, for her work in promoting Mexican art.

Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan presented the award at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington.

A source tells us that Margo, a former chairman of the Texas Commission on the Arts, normally stays at the White House during her trips to D.C., but didn’t on this trip because first daughter Jenna Bush is home and “the Bush ladies wanted some mother-daughter time.”

Also spotted in town: Hall of Fame Oriole Cal Ripken, who was dining at Central on Tuesday afternoon.
