In a wide-ranging video interview (there’s the link in case the embed doesn’t work) with former MLS midfielder Sasha Victorine for the Kansas City Wizards website, Juergen Klinsmann confirmed that he was nearly named U.S. men’s national team head coach, but said things that he agreed upon with U.S. Soccer never materialized in written form. U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati has refused to comment on whether or not the federation interviewed any candidates before deciding to extend Bob Bradley for another four years.
“Verbally, we agreed that the technical side is my side and I should have 100 percent control,” said Klinsmann. “In written terms, they couldn’t commit to it.”
