Quarterback

» Here’s why the Bears did not make the playoffs. Akron transfer Carlton Jackson never got into a rhythm and missed the final three games with an injured shoulder. Seniors Jeremy Glover and Mario Melton, who started the preseason at receiver, were unwatchable at times. The trio completed just 45.2 percent of its passes for just 1,259 yards and eight touchdowns against a staggering 19 interceptions.

Offensive line

» Time to throw was never an issue for Jackson, Glover or Melton, as left guard Dwayne Delaney and left tackle Dakarai Grimsley dominated the line of scrimmage. Snapping, however, was the unit’s downfall, as center Eric Fair was far from consistent.

Defensive line

» Defensive end Justin Lawrence was a force all season, finishing with 47 tackles, including a team-high 17 for loss to go with a team-leading eight sacks. End Bricen Tate (32 tackles) and tackle Lonnie Harvey (28) were key to a run defense that was among the best in the Football Championship Subdivision by yielding an average of just 94.6 yards per game.

Linebackers

» Jarrell Guyton will get looks from NFL scouts after finishing with a team-high 70 tackles, including 13 for loss, four sacks and an interception. George Howard (64 tackles, 10.5 TFL), Troy Leftwich (56 tackles, 10 TFL)  and Greg Onyiuke (50 tackles, 6 TFL) were each instrumental in Morgan State finishing with the FCS’s top-ranked defense (213.4 ypg).

Secondary

» The best group of defensive backs in the FCS were led by Chris Williams and Darren McKhan, as they tied for the team lead with four interceptions — one more than each had last season. Morgan State finished with 19 interceptions, one of the highest totals in the country.

Special teams

» Kicker James Meade started slow, but finished the season by making 10-of-16 field goals, including a game-winner with just seconds remaining in a 13-10 victory at Florida A&M. The Bears had two kicks blocked, but blocked six opposing kicks.
