Ripken World Series teams announced

On Monday, Ripken Baseball set the field of 15 teams for the seventh annual Cal Ripken World Series, to be played at the Ripken Youth Academy in Aberdeen Saturday through Aug. 20.

The local highlight is Hickory Fountain Green, of Harford County, which will play in the American Division.

A team from St. Mary?s County will also participate out of the National Division.

The festivities start at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, when the players will be introduced and greeted by Cal Ripken Jr. and Bill Ripken at Cal Sr.?s Yard.

After the opening ceremonies, players will take part in a home run derby and an around-the-horn competition.

Pool play for the tournament starts Sunday and run the next four days, with up to six games being played every day.

On Aug. 18, a round of four single-elimination games will start the playoffs, which will be televised on the Outdoor Life Network.

Game times for that Friday are 12:05, 2:35, 5:05 and 7:35 p.m.

On Aug. 19, the international championship game will be played at 4:05 p.m., and the U.S. championship starts at 6:45.

The championship game will be at 5:05 p.m. Aug. 20 at Cal Sr.?s Yard.
