Jim Williams: Several different ways to watch March Madness

There won’t be a great deal of work done around the office this week. The computers will become media players as March Madness begins.

Watching the NCAA tournament on broadband went from a novelty a few years ago to an absolute must. We have evolved into a nation of people who consume videos on a number of different screens. We can watch on our high-definition TV, broadband on cable, iPad or smartphone.

Enter Matthew Hong, the SVP and General Manager of Sports Operations for Turner Sports. He’s a self-professed geek who now has taken on the NCAA March Madness On Demand, produced by Turner Sports Interactive.

Hong is man passionate about this project and is quietly confident that http://mmod.ncaa.com will be a success.

Hong on the video » We know that the user is far more sophisticated than ever before so we are offering a new video player that will provide the clearest, cleanest video that we have ever produced on any of our sites. So the quality of the video and the audio is always the key to the user.

Hong on the changes » We have a number of new things that will enhance the viewing experience. We are now offering iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch apps over Wi-Fi and 3G because we know fans want access everywhere. The NCAA March Madness On Demand mobile applications are free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. We expect to expand this app to other smartphones and tablets in the future. If you have a smartphone you can go to the Web site and get plenty of information.

Hong on usage » We have seen in the past that during the week users will access the games on the computer, but on the weekends we know that since people are on the go that the iPad and smartphones will be yet another screen to be accessed.
