Sen. Hillary Clinton made her first appearance on ABC’s “The View” today and instantly addressed the possibility of her being the United States’ first female president and how it would be perceived around the globe.

“It may take a little adjustment but it’s time the world adjusted,” said Clinton.

The New York senator also addressed charges that she was a polarizing figure.

“I just want people to make an accurate decision about who I am and what I stand for and what I would do as president,” said Clinton. “And that’s happening so I’m very happy about that.” Still, Clinton acknowledged the difficulties inherent in a woman running for president.

“I do think there’s a tougher standard for women, especially running for president,” said Clinton.

The audience and the show’s hosts — Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd — largely gave Clinton a warm reception. Behar recalled a backstage conversation with Clinton that began, “When you’re president…” Goldberg said, “Speaking of Hillary being president — possibly — …” Goldberg also opened the show by taking to task Michelle Obama, the wife of Clinton’s top opponent for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama. Michelle recently said gave some lip-service to the idea that Clinton is a polarizing figure.

“That is definitely one of the challenges she faces,” Obama recently said. “You can see it in the surveys.”

“How does the wife get all up in there?” said Goldberg.

The panel also discussed recent controversial comments made by Ann Coulteron “The Big Idea with Donnie Deutsch” television program. Coulter said that Christians consider themselves “perfected Jews.”

Said Behar: “Can we have a cat fight with Ann Coulter?” Behar also referred to Coulter as the “anti-Christ,” “the face of the Republican party sometimes,” and “a woman who thinks that ‘Schlinder’s List’ is a comedy.”

Walters did not seriously entertain the suggestion that “The View” invite Coulter back to the show.
