Bennett was identified by a local outlet in video footage leaving the jail on Sunday morning after the arrest.
The 25 year old athlete has been pivotal in leading the University of Georgia in national championships in 2022 and 2023. He is projected by ESPN to enter the 2023 NFL draft.
Earlier this month, Bennett’s team defeated the TCU Horned Frogs in the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship, with a blowout victory of 65-7. The Bulldogs quarterback was named the offensive MVP of the game after combining for six total touchdowns. He finished the football season passing for 4,127 yards.
He is the grandson of Buddy Bennett, who played quarterback for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks from 1958 to 1960.
