The full week of training has definitely helped D.C. United. At practice today, Chris Pontius was doing all kinds of running work trying to improve his gait. Jordan Graye was running full speed – part of it as a fitness test but still pretty darn good proof of his health after last week’s hamstring tweak. Andy Najar was in training as normal. Even Marc Burch and Dejan Jakovic were kicking the ball around, although neither was doing anything close to running.
And there aren’t signs that United’s starting lineup is really going to change against the Rapids tomorrow. The best bet is the return of Juan Manuel Peña in place of Devon McTavish in central defense.
“When you’re performing well, you don’t want to tinker with too many things so don’t expect us to tinker a lot,” said United head coach Curt Onalfo. “If we have a change, it’s one or two, just based on what we think is going to help us be successful in this game. But we have a very hardworking group that understands how we want to move on both sides of the ball, and that becomes contagious. Now it’s just a matter of okay, let’s take it up a notch and get the results that we need.”
The full week also helped RFK Stadium, where there will be an additional 500 parking spaces available in Lot 8 tomorrow. The full repaving of the blizzard-ruined area is on schedule to be completed by the AC Milan match on May 26.
