Downtime at the Palm
Where will the elite eat come late summer?
The Palm, the city’s legendary power spot, is closing for six weeks near summer’s end for a face-lift and expansion.
Reconstruction of the exterior has begun, and a Palm spokesman confirms the steakhouse will close from Aug. 1 to Sept. 16. During that time, the bar will double in size, the kitchens and restrooms will be redesigned, and theprivate dining room in front will add 800 square feet and a glass-enclosed verandah. The spokesman also said the break will give longtime general manager Tommy Jacomo “a well-deserved, six-week vacation.”
He said the caricatures on the walls won’t be going anywhere.
We figure that many of the Palm’s regulars will be in Nantucket come August, but what about when they return in September? “There is nowhere else to go,” said one many-times-per-week regular. “Everyone is going to starve to death.”
Added Qorvis Communications’ David Bass, another regular: “The Palm has been home for the better part of 10 years, and Tommy Jacomo the de facto head of household. My understanding is that we’re putting on an addition. And the new place is supposed to be fantastic.”
