More from Kettler. Caps defenseman Tom Poti took part in the morning skate. He confirmed that the plan is for him to accompany the team on the West Coast road trip next week. He also said he visited a specialist in Vancouver during his time off to get another opinion on his groin injury.
“Little better. Nice to get out there with the guys instead of skating on my own,” Poti said. “It’s getting there. It’s not there yet. But it’s a long process and we’re trying to do the right thing, the smart thing.”
Poti has re-injured himself three separate times this season and had to come off the ice well before the end of a game each time, leaving the Caps with five defenseman. The latest incident was Jan. 12 in Tampa Bay. But as frustrating as the recurring injuries have been Poti has never thought about calling it a season.
“Not at all. Not at this point,” Poti said. “Hope I can get healthy and hope I can get it right.”
Poti has played just 21 games this season. But the last two days have featured his first really tough skates since that Jan. 12 game. He’s looking forward to more of the same on the trip.
