Campbell signs one-year tender

Jason Campbell made it easier for the Redskins to trade him, signing the team’s one-year tender offer.

As a restricted free agent, Campbell could have signed with another team, but the Redskins would have received a first-round pick as compensation. However, now that he has signed the tender offer (one year, $3.14 million), another team can offer far less.

It did not appear as of last night that a trade was imminent. A source close to Campbell said he would not be surprised if a trade is completed before the draft.

It’s possible that other teams will wait to see if they can get the quarterback they want in the first couple rounds of the draft. If not, they could always trade a late-round pick and get Campbell. Or they could wait until after the draft, re-assess their situation, and then make a deal.

Also, the Redskins signed nose tackle Anthony Bryant, a sixth-round pick in 2005 by Tampa Bay. He’s played in nine games in three NFL seasons.

Campbell is not expected to attend this weekend’s voluntary minicamp.
