Athletes took a reprieve from using the metaphor that they “were going to war” after Sept. 11, 2001. But that statute of limitations has long since passed, and now a couple of college football teams are really going to look like they are headed for battle, as South Carolina and Maryland will wear camouflage uniforms in their meeting on Nov. 14 to honor military veterans and promote the Wounded Warrior Project.
Under Armour, who outfits both the Terrapins and the Gamecocks, designed the uniforms. Both teams will face huge opponents that weekend — three days after Veterans’ Day — with South Carolina playing Florida and Maryland facing Virginia Tech.
The Wounded Warrior Project acts as an advocate for injured service men and women in Washington and provides services and programs for them.
For Ralph Friedgen‘s sake, let’s hope the Terps play well enough that they don’t look like they’re trying to hide from their record.
