The quarterback powers the offense and the receiver adds style, not to mention a little controversy. Marion Barber can’t compete with Tony Romo or Terrell Owens when it comes to star power.
All he can do is complete the offense. And make it that much scarier.
“He’s one of the most underrated backs in the league,” Redskins corner Fred Smoot said. “Give him the ball 300 times and he’s one of them guys that gets 2,000 yards.”
Barber won’t get that many carries any time soon, not with Julius Jones splitting time with him. But Barber leads Dallas with 569 yards rushing, averaging 5.1 yards a run, and has six touchdowns. He’s caught 24 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown.
The 6-foot, 221-pound Barber, a fourth-round selection three years ago, has averaged 4.6 yards for his career.
“He’s a Roger Craig type back,” Redskins linebacker Marcus Washington said. “He has those high knees, always pumping and trying to run guys over. He uses his arms to throw a right hook, whatever he has to do to break tackles. He runs a lot bigger than what he is.”
Romo said, “He provides us … an aggressive style of running that you really like to have. He’s a jumpstarter for our team.”
