I had a conversation this morning with Jeff Beauchamp, vice president and station manager of WBAL Radio a chat that perhaps I should have had on Thursday. The conversation puts the WHFS Orioles numbers in a different light.
According to Beachamp and Arbitron it seems that WBAL scored better in the all important 18-34 ratings when they were the home of the Orioles. Last April the station logged a 7.6 share of the audience while this season WHFS-FM in that same demo scored a 2.3 share.
For the record Beauchamp did not dispute the WHFS 6 share in the 34 to 54 demo which is up from last years 5.1 in April of 2006 when the O’s were on WBAL.
As we said it is way to early to know if the move from WBAL to WHFS-FM was a good one but it clearly that numbers can subject to debate in the very competitive world of local radio.
