The 106th World Series begins Wednesday night in San Francisco, and Fox again is rolling out its veteran crew to cover it. Joe Buck will handle the play-by-play duties. This is Buck’s 13th World Series, breaking a play-by-play record he shared with Hall of Fame broadcasters Vin Scully and Curt Gowdy.
“I am not worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence with those to giants in the industry,” Buck said. “I am simply blessed that Fox has given me a chance to do the game I love.”
Buck’s partner, Tim McCarver, is adding to his record-setting total of 21 World Series telecasts. The former MLB star also appeared in three Fall Classics as a player.
“I am someone that really just enjoys talking about baseball,” he said. “The fact that I have been fortunate enough to be part of so many World Series broadcasts is something I am proud of but really don’t think about.”
Ken Rosenthal, working his fifth World Series for Fox, will serve as the in-game reporter and MLB insider. Meanwhile, the man who provides the pictures — director Bill Webb — is one of the best in baseball. He and his crew somehow find just the right shot at just the right time to capture the mood and drama of the game.
McCarver on Webb » I have worked with him since 1983 and without question he is the best baseball director in the business. He and the crew are one step ahead of the game.
Buck on Webb » When I don’t have to speak and the pictures tell the story, that is always great television. In the 13 years I have worked with Bill, his ability to find just the right pictures at just the perfect time is amazing. He and [producer] Pete [Macheska] make our jobs as broadcasters easy.
