Hearing the call to come back home, Pete Strickland will take over the Spalding boys? basketball program.
Strickland played for and coached under legendary DeMatha coach Morgan Wootten, and hopes for similar success.
“It has a DeMatha feel to it,” he said. “There?s no ceiling on how good they can be.”
Strickland was the head coach at Coastal Carolina and was an assistant at Dayton and Old Dominion.
“I never saw myself as a Division I coach. I saw myself as a coach,” he said.
Strickland knows coaching in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Conference and Baltimore Catholic League will be a tough task.
He believes his 17 years of college coaching will help as he takes over.
“I?m hoping what I?ve done and what I?ve been is an attraction,” Strickland said.
