Ten games to go for the Wizards

The Wizards (17-55) aren’t leading the race to the bottom, but they’re certainly giving it their best effort, thanks to the mounting losses and injuries.

Rookie forward Trevor Booker was the latest to go missing after a foot injury kept him out of Sunday’s 114-104 loss at Golden State. Nick Young made his first appearance in five games but lasted only 13 minutes and according to reports, won’t be suiting up for Monday’s game at Utah due to the re-aggravation of his left knee problem.

Andray Blatche (sprained right shoulder) hasn’t played since March 8 – a span of nine games – yet we’re supposed to believe that he’s been day-to-day this whole time?

And why would Rashard Lewis (right knee) or Josh Howard (left knee) even think about playing again this season?

Undermanned and not even in the same zip code talentwise, Washington wasn’t expected to win any games during its current road trip, and it hasn’t. At least JaVale McGee was available to distract from the Wizards’ nightmares with a career-high 28 points and career high-tying 18 rebounds. If only the rest of the NBA loved to play small the way the Golden State does, except that will never happen.

The Wizards still need two more wins to match their franchise-worst total of 19. Thankfully, it would seem, they play Cleveland twice in their final 10 contests, but a visit from Detroit stands out as the only other clearly winnable game unless Washington stumbles upon a stash of good fortune. Again, not likely.

So, with Washington on the verge of matching the worst road record in NBA history (1-41, 1990-91 Sacramento) and likely to finish with one of the bottom three overall records in the league this season, welcome Examiner columnist Rick Snider to the party. He had a little something to say about what he thinks should be the Wizards’ next move.
