…Ignore what the Jaguars have done; minus Albert Haynesworth and London Fletcher, this is a different defense. But I do like how Renaldo Wynn has played. He’s been too quiet for my liking for much of the preseason, but he did a great job playing the run a few times, stringing out the play in which Chris Horton had a big hit. Wynn held his ground. He did his job.
…The Redskins want to get a good look at Rob Jackson, another guy who’s been quiet. Made a nice hustle play to poke the ball out from Maurice Jones-Drew.
…Anthony Alridge might be fast, but goodness sakes how many times can one man fumble? He did it often in training camp. Carry the ball in the correct arm! Not to mention make better decisions with the ball; four yards deep? Stay in the end zone. But he did have a good return on his next time out, a 29-yarder. But, still. Can’t fumble.
…Jason Campbell did a good job avoiding a blitz to throw incomplete to Ladell Betts. It could have been worse. The blitz was not picked up; guessing Casey Rabach was the culprit as he doubled with Chad Rinehart.
…Campbell had time to throw and if not for a pass interference penalty on Todd Yoder, the Redskins would have had a first down inside the 15. He’s made some excellent throws, particularly down the seam to Antwaan Randle El. Not sure it could be thrown better. Very decisive – a result of being confident, no doubt. Campbell looks like a confident quarterback in the pocket right now.
…Chad Rinehart has done OK, but I still don’t like his athleticism. You saw it on the screen pass on the first drive. He did not look getting out there and then missed his block.
… Need to see the running game do better. Too many missed blocks. On one short Ladell Betts run, Mike Sellers missed the lead block and Rinehart was beat backside. Again, athleticism.
…Brian Orakpo needs to learn to keep his knees bent while playing the run so he can react a little better to a back. He was a bit upright on his missed tackle, but he did force the back to slow and H.B. Blades stopped him for a one-yard gain.
…Anthony Montgomery is doing a good job with his effort tonight.
