McCain’s brain

Dr. Daniel Amen, the neuropsychiatrist who made waves with an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times that called on each of the presidential candidates to submit to brain scans, thinks that Sen. John McCain may have brain damage.

In a conversation with Yeas & Nays, he asked, “Does John McCain, at his age, have the brain power and brain health to lead the country? He probably has brain damage. He was beaten in captivity [in Vietnam]. Is that why he has temper issues?”

The director of the Amen Clinics also wonders whether brain illness is to blame for Rudy Giuliani’s “honesty issues,” as he calls them.

He renewed his call for brain scans, arguing that they can flag such potential problems and allow the candidates to be treated before they take office.

The McCain campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
