Today Maryland will host James Madison and the game will be seen only on computer via broadband network ESPN360 at 6pm.
The game will get the full network treatment with six cameras, replays, graphics and a network broadcast team. That’s right just like the coverage that any regional network would be doing for regular television.
The quality of the picture on ESPN360 is as good as watching standard definition television and if you have a laptop it is more portable and accessible than cable.
For those who aren’t into the whole broadband thing you might have thought that the Terps home opener would be seen on a tiny screen with two cameras, no graphics and student radio doing the audio well you are in for a big surprise.
Damon Phillips, Vice President of ESPN360.com and I talked about how the broadband world has changed and how he now is in charge of ESPN’s hottest and fastest growing network.
Phillips on becoming a destination for college football fans:”We are the home for college football fans. You can see as many as five at one time and if you want to watch one full screen then you just click on it and is right there. There will be as many as eight ESPN360 exclusive games each week that we treat just like any other ESPN game. We will broadcast over 300 live college football games free on ESPN360.”
Phillip on seeing football from all conferences:”We are the home to live sports and there are plenty of great conferences out there in college’s football. Our goal is to give fans a chance to see as many teams from as many conferences as possible. If you watch college football on ESPN360 you will know more about the “surprise teams” than anywhere else on TV.”
Phillips on what else you will see on ESPN360:”There is no other one place in this country where you will find more live soccer than we have. We have the all the top leagues from Europe and we offer games game’s not only live on the weekend but throughout the week. We have aired over 350 hours of tennis from the U. S. Open; we will offer some key Major League Baseball games as we get closer to the post season. Viewers can add to that Canadian Football League action, FIBA international basketball, action sports plus, Bassmaster events along with international events like cricket and rugby.”
ESPN360 is available in the Washington area on broadband to subscribers of Comcast, Verizon and to many other internet service providers that includes all the area universities as well as the military.
