Logan-El eyes proud new colors

The scant crowd at Towson?s Black and Gold spring game Saturday didn?t disappoint incoming freshman transfer Antonio Logan-El.

“Its not 100,000 screaming blue and white,” said Logan-El, a 6-foot-5, 320 pound offensive tackle. “But when you break it down and think about it ? when you have a defensive end about to blitz ? you don?t hear anything. It?s completely silent. When you think of the bigger picture, it doesn?t matter how many people are going to be there.”

Logan-El, a highly touted recruit coming out of Forestville High in 2006, will join the Tigers this fall after announcing last week his intentions to join the Division I-AA program from Division I power Penn State. He was on hand Saturday at Unitas Stadium, roaming the Tigers? sidelines and talking with his future teammates as they brought spring practice to a close.

“I got a decent feel for them,” Logan-El said of the coaching staff. “I?ll probably be up and back a couple more times before I finally come up for good.”

Logan-El has already narrowed-down his arrival date to two days – May 28 or June 18.

“I?m about to start working out, working hard and get back into shape to get after it,” Logan-El said.

While on the sidelines Saturday, Logan-El spoke with Towson?s departing left tackle Jermon Bushrod, who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

While Towson coach Gordy Combs said he can?t comment on the situation until Logan-El enrolls in classes, it was apparent that his starting quarterback ? Sean Schaefer ? had already forged a relationship with his future blind-side blocker.

“He looked pretty good,” Logan-El said of Schaefer, who completed 6-of-11 passes for 101 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers. “He made some great passes and got the ball to the open receiver. I had a little chitchat on the sideline with him. I told him I?d be coming here to block for him and watch his blind side.”

In replacing Bushrod, Towson had slated sophomore Leon Stevenson in the left tackle slot. But, if all goes as planned, the Tigers will have Bushrod?s replacement in Logan-El – who has four years of eligibility remaining.
