Been there, done that for Maryland

Maryland is struggling with injures. A team from the inferior Sun Belt Conference is coming to Byrd Stadium. The Terps need a victory to enter ACC play on a positive note.

Does this storyline sound familiar?

It should. It happened last year when Middle Tennessee came to Maryland and edged the Terrpains, 32-31, charting a course for the Terps’ worst season in history.

With visiting Florida International (0-2) of the Sun Belt facing Maryland (2-1) on Saturday, the storylines still apply.

“The theme with Maryland right now is adversity,” wide receiver Torrey Smith said. “We can’t catch a break. We really think it’s going to be a challenge for us.”

Pressure is ratcheting up in College Park. Even though FIU has taken two teams from BCS conferences (Rutgers, Texas A&M) to the wire, fans expect Maryland to win without breaking a sweat.

“The past is the past,” running back Da’Rel Scott said. “We can’t look down on them.”
