Top Five College hoops POY candidates

5. Jared Sullinger, Ohio State ?» The sophomore forward is averaging 17.3 points and 9.3 rebounds for the No. 6 team in the country. But injuries have hampered Sullinger throughout the season and caused him to miss one of Ohio State’s biggest games, a 78-67 loss to Kansas.

4. Kevin Jones, West Virginia ?» The Big East leader in points (20.1) and rebounds (11.6) has 12 double-doubles this season. He’s played at his best against some of the Mountaineers’ toughest competition, including a 28-point, 17-rebound performance in a loss to Baylor and a 22-point, 16-rebound game in a win over Georgetown.

3. Anthony Davis, Kentucky ?» The lengthy 6-foot-10 freshman will likely be the top pick in the NBA Draft and is the best defensive player in the country, averaging 4.6 blocks a game. But the talent around Davis may take away from him being able to solidify himself as the top player in college this season. He’s averaging just 13.1 points a game.

2. Doug McDermott, Creighton » It’s not uncommon to see a mid-major player among the nation’s scoring leaders, but the way McDermott is putting up 24.3 points a game is extremely impressive. The sophomore forward is shooting 62.1 from the field, 53.2 from 3-point range and 84.4 from the free-throw line.

1. Thomas Robinson, Kansas ?» It’s good to be in a class with Tim Duncan, Blake Griffin and Michael Beasley. That’s what averaging more than 17 points and 12 rebounds a game does. The junior forward averaged just 14.6 minutes a game last year and now he’s No. ?7 Kansas’ go-to guy. In the Jayhawks’ win over No. 3 Baylor on Monday, Robinson had 27 points and 14 rebounds.
