Hibbert a unanimous All-Big East pick

Georgetown prides itself on being a team that can’t be figured out by just looking at statistics.

But the Big East Conference’s coaches all agree on what makes the Hoyas such a force, naming Georgetown senior center Roy Hibbert to the All-Big East first-team for the second consecutive season, the league announced Monday.

Despite being ranked 19th in the conference in scoring (13.6 per game) and rebounding (6.4 per game), Hibbert was this year’s only repeat member of the first-team and one of four unanimous selections, along with Connecticut’s A.J. Price, Louisville’s David Padgett and Notre Dame’s Luke Harangody.

Each player helped his team earn a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament, which begins Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. Hibbert had 12 points, six rebounds and four blocks in last weekend’s 55-52 win over Louisville to help the ninth-ranked Hoyas (25-4, 15-3) capture their second straight Big East regular-season crown.

Hibbert was third in field goal percentage (.600) and fourth in blocks (2.4 per game).

Georgetown senior guard Jonathan Wallace was named to the Big East’s second team while freshman forward Austin Freeman was named to the all-rookie team.

The top seed in the Big East Tournament, the Hoyas will face the winner of No. 8 Villanova vs. No. 9 Syracuse at noon Thursday.
