Hayfield senior guard Chapmen Canady signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play for Wilmington (Del.), a Division II school, according to Hawks coach David Abella.
Canady, a first-team All-Patriot District selection, helped Hayfield to an 18-9 record and a No. 10 ranking in the final Examiner Top 25 poll. He averaged 17.4 points and 3.1 assists per game. The Hawks were district runner-up to T.C. Williams and lost to Marshall at home in the Northern Region Tournament quarterfinals. Wilmington competes in the Capital Atlantic Athletic Conference and finished 7-20 last season.
Also, Edison senior guard Ben Stokes will play basketball at Division III Mary Washington next winter. Stokes, who averaged 17.3 ppg as a senior, was a four-year starter for the Eagles and helped No. 14 Edison (21-6) to the Northern Region Tournament quarterfinals for the third year in a row. He exited as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,375 points.
