111 U.S. Open being played at the Congressional Club in Bethesda was sold out before Thursday’s first day of competition. Yes, they had a small amount of single day badges that went quickly and the event is a great success at the gate.
All the corporate tents are also sold out and they are doing a brisk business because there is no doubt that the U.S. Open is a must attend event for top sponsors and their customers.
It is also great business for the folks selling souvenirs. The hats, shirts and all items with the U.S. Open logo are flying off the shelves
The U.S. Open is the perfect event for corporations because they can connect with not only their customers but also Washington powerbrokers.
So in short people of all walks of life are here visiting the various tents in Bethesda.
David Eisenberg, Global Advertising and Brand Marketing, Manager, American Express spoke to me about why his company wanted to be at U.S. Open as well as some things they do for their guests while at the tournament.
JW: Why is it important for American Express to be at the U.S. Open?
Eisenberg:”We are here at Congressional because this is a big event. Our customers give us feedback about what events they enjoy attending most. The U.S. Open is one of those major sporting events that our cardholders have told us is of great interest to us. This is a true destination event and we are proud of our relationship with the USGA and so being here is a true pleasure both for American Express and our card holders.”
JW: What are some of the things that you provide your guests?
Eisenberg:”Well we want them to most all have a good time and that ranges from tickets to providing small handheld TV’s so that while walking the course so they call follow all the action. This is all about helping our card holders have fun at the event. We do the same things at major concerts and other non sporting events. For us our goal is always make a great event even better.”

The U.S. Open is an event that attracts one of the most sought after demographics in sports the 25-60 year old men.
