OK, this is hardly news. Dan Snyder talked with the media for, oh, 46 seconds today at FedEx Field after handing out turkeys and other goodies to needy families.
But he clearly was not going to talk about football or what changes might occur in the offseason — or if he’d even make any.
“Right now, today, we are celebrating Thanksgiving and giving back to the community as best we can,” he said. “The team is playing ahrd, but we are all very disappointed and I’m as disappointed as everyone. We’re hoping to get things straight in the near future.”
When NBC’s Lindsay Czarniak asked him if fans could expect changes, Snyder said, “Thanks. See you guys. Happy Thanksgiving.”
And off he went. This time, there was no band music.
It’s not surprising that Snyder did not want to address sticky football questions (this was before we learned of Abe Pollin’s death, too). But at some point he must start to answer tough questions surrounding his team. Fans want, and deserve, real answers in what has been one of the tougher seasons in memory. One way to start winning fans back is to start answering hard questions.
Then again, some of those quesitons involve the job security of certain individuals. And there’s only one answer fans will deem acceptable.
