The promotion of Larry McCall from Triple-A Ottawa Lynx pitching coach to Orioles bullpen coach set off a series of movesthroughout the organization last week.
Dave Schmidt, who spent last season as the Aberdeen Ironbirds pitching coach, took over for McCall at Ottawa. Calvin Maduro was then tabbed to take over at Aberdeen.
Maduro ended his 14-year playing career Saturday after giving up four runs on three hits in three innings for the Bowie Baysox in a 4-1 loss to the Binghamton Mets.
“Calvin brings a tremendous amount of experience, can speak four languages and is someone I wanted to bring into the Orioles organization to help us now and in the future,” said David Stockstill, the Orioles Director of Player Development.

Outfielder Keith Reed, as of Wednesday, was tied for third in the International League with 18 doubles, including one in a 2-0 win against Columbus last week ? Veteran outfielder Howie Clark is batting .272 and extended his hitting streak to 16 games Tuesday.

Pitcher James Johnson earned his team-best sixth win of the season last Thursday as he allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four in a 1-0 win over Trenton. On the season, he is 6-3 with a 3.75 ERA in 13 starts.

Travis Brown?s RBI single in the 13th inning capped a 6-5 come-from-behind win Saturday over Potomac, snapping an eight-game home losing streak ? Garrett Olson and Paco Figueroa earned Carolina League Pitcher and Player of the Month honors for May.

Third baseman Ryan Finan is batting .268 with a team-high eight home runs and 36 RBI. Finan just finished an eight-game stretch where he went 9-for-22 with seven RBI ? Brandon Erbe (McDonogh) had a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed one hit over five innings last week in a 7-0 win over Lakewood.

The Orioles have opened discussions with top draft picks Bill Rowell and Pedro Beato, but have not come to a contract agreement yet, said Orioles scouting administrator Marcy Zerhusen … Catonsville High pitcher Neal Davis has been tendered a contract but has not signed as of Wednesday.
