Fall Out Boy: Please, Don’t Listen To Us!

Barack = Axl

Nowadays it seems as if every celebrity wants to sound off about politics and let you know exactly what they think (and who to vote for). But not Fall Out Boy. The rock band made it very clear to us that, if you hear them spouting off on politics, well, just ignore them.

“It shouldn’t be what we do that we get on stage and preach and shove things down their throats,” said lead singer (and new Ashlee Simpson hubby) Pete Wentz. “People should get out and investigate the issues and see which issues echo for themselves.” Wentz and the gang were in Denver Monday to perform at a Rock The Vote concert.

Lead guitarist Joe Trohman agreed. “It would be something of a tragedy if people went out and voted because we voted for someone.” And again: “It might not be such a good idea to pay attention to so-and-so for a cue on how to vote, rather than actually checking out the facts.” Once more: “if you’re saying something over a killer guitar solo, is anyone going to care?” Enter frontman Patrick Stump: “The impetus is on Americans to pay attention to both sides. … I would really hate to think that if I say, one way or another, what political candidate I supported that anyone would take that at face value.”

Okay, we get the point: We’ll totally disregard your political views. But that’s not to say that they don’t have them tucked away somewhere.

“It’d be nice to get out of the war,” said Trohman. “It’s not great to have anybody die in vain.”

As for Wentz, he couldn’t hide his excitement about meeting a certain someone at the convention: “I want to meet the Axl Rose of the convention: I want to meet Obama!” And you, Strump? “I’d be just as happy to meet Biden.”

Another pop rocker on hand this week was Chris Daughtry, the former “American Idol” contender. He and his band (conveniently named “Daughtry”) played the Grammys party on Tuesday night, but not before they chipped in on a community service project at Manual High School..

Chris and the boys put together caregiver survival kits for volunteers who help the impoverished in Africa. And of course thanked the crowed and posed for pictures.
