1. Jason Campbell looked off (though he did not play in the second quarter). Though everyone wants a deep passing game, Campbell is best when he works short to long, allowing him to get into a rhythm. Just never had it.
2. It was hard to tell if Justin Tryon truly broke up the pass on the sidelines to Limas Sweed, though it appeared the receiver dropped it. He did have good coverage.
3. Jeremy Bridges can not re-adjust on plays. Linebacker Andre Frazier stepped to the outside, then shot inside for an easy path to Todd Collins. Bridges could not adjust. That’s what a linemen MUST do.
4. If Mike Sellers, who has a right knee contusion and wil not return, was ever hurt for an extended time the running game would greatly suffer. They have no one else who can block the way he does on lead runs. Eddie Wiliams is not ready; he does not get much push on his blocks.
5. The Redskins will play off Orakpo on rushes, with blitzes and stunts. Orakpo seems to roll his hips well when he gets into blockers, making him more explosive. Did you notice how many times Pittsburgh chipped him with a back? Seemed like every time he lined up at end, the back was on his side, leaving Lorenzo Alexander one-on-one on the other side.
6. The last line that went in was Bridges (LT), Rueben Riley (LG), Will Montgomery (C), Chad Rinehart (RG) and D’Anthony Batiste (RT). Rinehart and Batiste failed on a double team, causing Rock Cartwright to get tackled for a one-yard loss.
7. See how Dennis Dixon slid on his 17-yard run? Hope Campbell paid attention.
8. Too many third-down passes being completed on the Skins. Steelers converted two on their last field goal drive.
9. Malcolm Kelly’s long arms make a big difference for the quarterbacks. They’ll be good for Campbell, considering how often he misses high to the shorter receivers. Kelly will get those passes.
10. I wonder if Devin Thomas could have come back harder for the pass that was intercepted. Regardless, Keiwan Ratliff made a good read and Collins does not have the gun to get the ball there in a tight spot.
11. Did you see the ref try to catch the ball on the missed 53-yard kick?
12. Michael Grant gave Pittsburgh new life by being offsides. However, that won’t get him cut; his play at corner will.
