Politics doesn’t show him the money

Don’t look for Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl safety Darren Sharper to become the next Steve Largent or Lynn Swann and attempt to make the jump from football to politics.

“Nah, they don’t make enough money,” the Virginia native told Yeas & Nays at the 6th Annual Positive Choices Inc. Football Camp on Saturday. He’s quite content with his $3 million salary.

Not that Sharper isn’t politically minded: He publicly endorsed John Kerry for president in 2004, and, this time around, he’s thrown his weight behind Barack Obama.

“We are about to have the first black president,” Sharper said. “I got to pay attention to that.

“In my time being in the NFL, my 12 years, I have seen how our economy and our country has kind of slowed and I think it is time for a change and Barack is definitely the guy to bring that breath of fresh air.”

Sharper did say he would work in Washington D.C. — but as a Redskin, not a politician.

“If I had a chance it would be nice to come home,” he said “I have a lot of friends that play for the Redskins so it would be an easy transition but for right now I figure wholeheartedly I would get the Minnesota Vikings to the Super Bowl.”
