Danica Patrick could give ESPN2 and the Nationwide series a ratings record today

The DRIVE4COPD 300’s broadcast is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. today on ESPN.

Danica Patrick will make her first career NASCAR start from the 15th position in today’s DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway. The race can be seen at 1p.m.on ESPN2 and heard on both MRN and of course Sirius/XM NASCAR channel with the broadband coverage at NASCAR.com

This could be a huge day for NASCAR, the Nationwide series and ESPN2 because if last week is any indication Patrick is able to not only drive race cars but she drives ratings. The ARCA race on Speed drew one of their biggest audiences of all time. So with some luck ESPN2 could be looking recod day

Patrick, who finished sixth in last weekend’s ARCA race, will be seated in the No. 7 Go Daddy Chevrolet, which carries owner’s points from last season to allow her to make her first NASCAR start without a qualifying effort.

All eyes this week have been on Patrick, who is taking a break from her Indy car, endorsements and celebrity status to attempt to run 300 miles today at the famed 2.5-mile uperspeedway.

Patrick’s story has overshadowed Sunday’s Daytona 500 and its rich field of elite Sprint Cup drivers.

Oh I almost forgot, Kyle Busch, the defending Nationwide Champ will be on the poll for the race and rounding out the top five will be Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick and John Wes Townley.

Patrick will not be the only woman in the field. Crissy Wallace, daughter of Mike Wallace and niece of Kenny and former Cup champion Rusty Wallace, will start in Row 18 in her No. 41 Chevrolet. Father Mike and uncle Kenny are also in the race.
