Jim Williams: Sir Charles doles out

For the second straight season the Wizards are in the playoffs, which makes things more interesting for us locals. Even better, the Wiz are facing the LeBron James-led ClevelandCavaliers and will get the star treatment starting with today’s nationally televised series opener on ABC.

The series then moves to CSN (though TNT and ESPN will air games on Tuesday and Friday, respectively) with lots of pre- and post-game coverage. On the radio you can follow the Wiz on WTEM 980-AM.

ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and TNT have the playoffs covered so fans will be able to see each game. SIRIUS Satellite Radio has every playoff game through the finals, so you are covered on that front, as well.

This is the time of year TNT studio host Charles Barkley shines and is at his best. I spoke to him about the playoffs via conference call.

Barkley on the playoffs: “This is the most wide-open playoffs that I can ever recall. It is a real crapshoot out there. I mean beyond Detroit making it to the Eastern Conference Finals and San Antonio making it to the Western Conference Finals I have no idea who they will be playing and anyone who says that they do is lying to you.”

Barkley on the Wizards: “Anytime you put Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler on the court you are going to score points. I love their chances against Cleveland because a team making their first playoff appearance in a while is always up against it. They are either too tight or too high. The Wizards have played Cleveland tough this season and they pose match up problems for them all over the floor. So I really think that Washington should win and advance to the next round.”
