If the first two games are any indication, Spanish giants Real Madrid could be in for a stern test when a number of D.C. United players play their third international friendly of the summer Wednesday in Seattle.
United had three out of the four MLS All-Stars to play a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Chelsea in Saturday’s MLS All-Star game in Chicago.
Bobby Boswell, Facundo Erpen and Josh Gros all went the distance in the upset win over the reigning English Premier League champs.
Alecko Eskandarian and Freddy Adu registered two shots apiece as a second-half substitutes as two of five D.C. players to see at least a full half of action.
The victory was head coach Peter Nowak’s second shutout of the summer against an international opponent. United defeated Scottish champs Celtic, 4-0, on July 11.
“We still made a couple of mistakes,” said Nowak of his All-Star team. “But … we can compete. If the heart is there, and the will and determination and the brain, we can really play good soccer against them.”
Wednesday’s match will be shown live at 11 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
