Mark Foley’s here to stay
They say that what goes up must come down, but does what goes down have to go back up?
That’s the question that The Palm restaurant is wrestling with as it undergoes renovations over the next few months and relocates some of the various faces that plaster its walls.
The faces in question are the ones at the restaurant’s main entrance. When The Palm reopens in the early fall, patrons will enter the restaurant through a different side entrance, and the original entrance will become part of a new glass-enclosed atrium, meaning that the faces previously located there have to be moved elsewhere.
But Palm regulars will be curious to see whether one face in particular will mysteriously “disappear” when the restaurant reopens: former Rep. Mark Foley. As Yeas & Nays reported back in October, a caricature of the now-disgraced ex-politician greeted Palm guests at the entrance. But during the renovations, will Foley’s mug be relocated? Or removed?
Well, don’t be surprised if Foley’s face is still there to make you feel queasy as you put away your New York strip.
“What’s politics without a little scandal?” a Palm spokesperson asks Yeas & Nays. “You can be famous, infamous or forgotten — with few exceptions, once you’re on the wall, you’re on the wall.”
Which also answers the question about former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham’s visage on the restaurant’s back wall, as well. It’s here to stay.
