The Nationals have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jordan Zimmermann on a one-year contract for 2013, the team announced on Friday.
Zimmermann was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing on Feb. 19. He made $2.3 million last season and was in line for either $4.6 million if Washington won the arbitration case or $5.8 million if he won it.
Financial terms were not immediately disclosed. Zimmermann was one of seven Nats players eligible for arbitration and the last one to agree to a deal. Washington general manager Mike Rizzo has said throughout the offseason that the two sides are negotiating a longer-term contract, but a deal hasn’t yet been struck.
Zimmermann had his best season to date in 2012: A 12-8 record with a 2.94 ERA in 195 2/3 innings. That came on the heels of a 3.18 ERA in 26 starts in 2011. Zimmermann, 26, had Tommy John surgery in 2009.
