Tottenham, Liverpool to meet in Baltimore on July 28

Soccer’s silly summer season of friendlies involving European clubs on tour in the U.S. could be set for a test of the limits of its American ticket-buying audience.

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that it will play fellow English Premier League power Liverpool at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on July 28. Tottenham is set to be outfitted next season by Baltimore-based Under Armour.

A grass surface will be brought in for the match.

The fixture comes in between Spurs games against the Los Angeles Galaxy at Home Depot Center on July 24 and the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on July 31.

But it falls on the same date as a rumored friendly between Chelsea and AC Milan a mere 30 miles or so down Interstate 95 at FedEx Field. Although there was an announcement by Chelsea’s U.S. fan club in February and the brief appearance of an announcement on Chelsea’s website earlier this week, that game hasn’t been officially announced.

Assuming that it is eventually, it will make for an interesting day of soccer in the region. If it takes place later in the evening, there could be a massive parade of diehards down the highway from one game to the other.

There’s already going to be plenty of congestion in Baltimore, with the Orioles also playing that evening at Camden Yards.

Tickets for Tottenham/Liverpool go on sale Tuesday, April 3 at 10:00 a.m. via ticketmaster.com or baltimoreravens.com/tickets.
