Miss America and the Mascot

Miss America Lauren Nelson was back in D.C. again Wednesday to support her cause: keeping kids safe from online predators (Nelson made headlines in April when she posed as a child on the Internet for an episode of “America’s Most Wanted”).

On Wednesday, Nelson presented awards to Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, and Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., on behalf of the Internet Keep Safe Coalition. She also posed with the organization’s mascot, “Faux Paw, The Techno Cat” (no, we didn’t just make that up).

She had competition this time, however: Also in the room was Miss Utah USA 2005 Marin Poole, who also happens to be the niece of Jacalyn Leavitt, the coalition’s founder and wife of Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt.
