The Redskins signed veteran offensive tackle Sean Locklear on Friday, giving them something they lacked: a backup capable of playing the left or right side. Most of his 78 starts in Seattle were at right tackle, but he also filled in at left tackle. When the Seahawks re-signed Locklear in 2008, then-president Tim Ruskell said he would eventually succeed Walter Jones at left tackle.
Locklear is considered to be a better pass protector than run blocker, but with decent athleticism. He entered the NFL as a guard, but was switched to tackle and only occasionally played guard in practice.
“I’m just glad to be on a team,” he said. “I’ll let them figure out where they want to place me and go from there.”
Locklear was arrested for domestic abuse in 2006. He eventually was sentenced to two years community service and fined $5,000.
