Where are they now?: Alex Gregory, Baseball

The Highlanders have struggled all season, and even Gregory got off to a slow start, but while Radford’s fortunes have worsened as the season has progressed, Gregory has become the team’s best hope for the future.

With a 6-5 defeat to Liberty on April 9, Radford set a school record with its 16th straight loss. The Highlanders (4-29, 1-11 Big South) haven’t won since an 11-0 victory over Norfolk State on Mar. 16.

Meanwhile, Gregory, a former All-Examiner first baseman, began the year batting 6-for-27, punctuated by a four-game hitless streak. But beginning with a 3-for-6 performance with two home runs against North Carolina A&T on Mar. 4, he’s hit successfully in 20 of 25 games since, raising his season average to .304. He also has a team-leading six homers and 33 RBIs.

As a senior at Paul VI, Gregory batted .468 with eight homers and 35 RBIs.
