Losing his last four matches away from Baltimore, Darnell “The Ding-A-Ling Man” Wilson punched his way back on track in front of a hometown crowd at Michael?s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie.
The main event on the six-fight Ballroom Boxing card Thursday night, Wilson (19-5-3, 16 KOs) bested Daniel Judah (21-2-3) with a technical knockout 33 seconds into the fourth round.
“This guy I knew would be difficult because of his style,” Wilson said.
Judah, brother of former welterweight world champion Zab Judah, could not continue after Wilson landed a blow in the fourth round to his surgically repaired left shoulder. No one in the crowd could question the legitimacy of the injury as the blow to Judah?s shoulder created a loud popping sound.
“This was a difficult fight,” Wilson said. “This is what you need [to go to the next level].”
Among other fights on the card, Baltimore native Tyrell Samuel (8-0-0, 5 KOs), one of two other Charm City fighters, came away with a split-decision victory over Carlos Vinan (5-3-0, 1 KO), a fighter Samuel had beaten before.
“Same fight,” Samuel said.”It was a war [then] and it was a war tonight. Our styles [explode] together.”
One of the keys to victory for Samuel was continually working a cut above Vinan?s right eye.
“In the last round,” Samuel said, “I really tried to exploit it.”
The card?s other hometown favorite, Ishmail “The Arsenal” Arvin (14-1-2, 6 KOs), lost a majority-decision to Dominican David Toribio (13-5-0, 7 KOs), in a spirited fight where neither fighter really established himself.
After the match, Arvin was understandably in no talking mood.
“[I feel] terrible,” Arvin said. “I need to stay in the gym and work on my timing. We?ll work on it.”
The other two matches featured a knockout win for William Gill (4-11-0, 3 KOs) of New Jersey and a majority-decision victory for Jose Rodriguez (8-0-0) of New York.
