Eight is enough for Saints commitments

Eight St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes girls lacrosse players have made verbal commitments to colleges in recent days, Saints coach Kathy Jenkins said Thursday.

Senior defender Liz Downs and senior midfielder Molly Millard have both committed to Virginia. Millard led St. Stephen’s with 26 goals and a team-high 34 assists and was one of three Saints to reach 60 points. Senior attack Katherine Denkler will sign with Vanderbilt. She’ll join former teammate Carter Foote, the Examiner Player of the Year in Virginia last spring. Denkler led St. Stephen’s in goals (56) and points (68) in 2005. Senior goalie Lauren Thomas has committed to Georgetown. As a junior, Thomas allowed just 65 goals in 18 games for a 3.9 goals against average. Other Saints expected to sign letters of intent include Kendall Davis (Lafayette), Annie Culvahouse (Colgate), Abigail Holden (Dartmouth) and Becca Devine (Bucknell). And they aren’t done. Senior midfielder Mia Hurrin will decide next week between offers from North Carolina and Boston.

“This is an athletic, talented group of girls,” said Jenkins, who coached the Saints to a 17-1 record last season and their 12th straight Independent Schools League championship. “I can’t wait to see what they do on the field next season.”
