Roofs over their heads
Much hay has been made over John and Cindy McCain’s seven houses, and whether their multiple domiciles make them out of touch with average Americans. So we asked a bunch of far-from-average Americans if they’re doing better or worse than McCain on the housing front.
And it seems that the McCains have them all beat. Spike Lee told us he has two, actor Matthew Modine said he had one and “West Wing” star Richard Schiff said he had “one and dwindling.”
“Saturday Night Live” star and head writer Seth Myers told us he’s got “way less” than McCain, but he couldn’t resist a quip. “When my grandfather got old, he only had one house, but he thought he had seven,” joked Myers.
Director Cameron Crowe said, “If you include my wife’s home in Oregon, two,” referring to Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson. “How the [expletive] do you keep track of that many houses?” he wondered.
“The Nanny” star Fran Drescher gave us her inimitable laugh before telling us, “I only have two. [McCain] married well.”
“I’ve got three, including my own private hotel,” said actor Josh Lucas.
Record producer Jimmy Jam said he’s only got one, plus “I know how many houses I own because I pay the bills!”
And rock star Chris Daughtry told us he’s only got one as well … “for now.”
Former DNC Chairman and all-around rich guy Terry McAuliffe didn’t answer our question although he gave us a big laugh, then offered the expert analysis of a political adviser: “You know what [rhymes with ducked] him? He’s got investment properties, so he didn’t know how to answer. That’s what [rhymes with ducked] him.”
