We’re not big on conspiracy theories, but perhaps Mitt Romney may have picked up a few more precious votes in New Hampshire had he won over the hearts and minds at George’s Apparel.
The Manchester haberdashery is a well-known spot in town and has become famous for its original New Hampshire ties (they sell roughly 500 a year). CNN’s Larry King even sported one of George’s Granite State ties following a recent debate in Manchester.
The store was hoping it might get a visit from one of the many presidential candidates darting around the state in advance of Tuesday’s primary. Sadly, that never happened, despite what the store heard from Romney. In late December, Romney’s people told the store that they’d be coming in the following day, only to change the schedule and cancel the appearance. Had Romney stopped by, he’d have been the only 2008 candidate to do so, no doubt securing the love and affection of George and his staff (and a prominent photo near the cash register).
