Call it a sixth sense if you want.
They can read each other?s tendencies on the field with a subtle smile or the blink of an eye.
For Gilman senior midfielders, Brian and Kevin Carroll, this silent, yet vocal accord on the lacrosse field has caught the attention of college scouts, as the twins are headed to play lacrosse for the University of Virginia at the beginning of the 2006-07 academic year.
“Virginia lacrosse fans are going to thoroughly enjoy getting to know this outstanding group of student-athletes,” Virginia coach Dom Starsia said of the Carroll brothers. “We are all excited about the prospects for their contribution to the program.”
Their contributions to the Greyhound program are evident as well.
Recognized as a solid one-on-one defender, Brian was capable of scoring or assisting on goals, as the team captain scored 26 goals and added 17 assists in his junior year. In 13 games this season, Brian has 27 goals, 12 assists and 57 groundballs.
At 6-feet-1, 185 pounds, Kevin was voted first-team All-Baltimore City by area coaches last spring, and claims the budding relationship between he and his brother is a key ingredient to their success.
“We have played together since we were little kids and I just know what he is going to do with the stick better then anyone else,” said Kevin, who has tallied 20 goals, six assists and 23 groundballs this year.
Brian agreed.
“I think we just have great chemistry on the field and we both push each other to get better,” he said. “I can give Kevin a simple look in a game and he will know the move I am about to make, or the pass I?m looking to create. It?s a pretty cool thing we have going.”
“Brian is right handed and Kevin is left-handed which makes them very dynamic on the field,” Gilman coach Brooks Matthews said. “They compliment each other so well because they are not concerned with accumulating personal stats, but always doing whatever they can to make the team better.”
