Week 11 NFL superlatives

Breaking down the best and worst from Week 11 in the NFL: 5. Best comeback: Lions » Detroit became the first team in the last six decades to overcome three 17-point deficits in one season. Sunday’s comeback came against Cam Newton and Carolina with the Lions trailing 24-7 before mounting an epic comeback to win 49-35. Matthew Stafford matched his career best with five touchdowns.

4. Best recovery: Falcons » Following a stunning overtime loss to the Saints last week when coach Mike Smith made a highly criticized decision to go for it on fourth down, Atlanta recovered by squeaking out a victory over the Titans. This time, Smith went for it on fourth-and-1 in the third quarter and Matt Ryan converted a quarterback sneak.

3. Worst injury: Jay Cutler » The Bears won their fifth straight game with a 31-20 victory over the Chargers. At 7-3, Chicago remains a top candidate for a wild-card spot. But Cutler could be out for the rest of the season with a right thumb injury that requires surgery, leaving the team’s playoff fate in backup Caleb Hanie’s hands.

2. Best fill-in: Vince Young » With Michael Vick sitting out, the embattled quarterback who declared Philadelphia the “Dream Team” helped the Eagles defeat the Giants 17-10. His 8-yard go-ahead touchdown pass with 2:45 left allowed the Eagles to avoid another fourth-quarter letdown.

1. Best November: Tony Romo » With a win over the Redskins on Sunday, the Cowboys quarterback is now 18-2 for his career in November. Against Washington, Romo had two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and a 26-yard completion in overtime to Dez Bryant on 3rd-and-15 that set up the game-winning field goal.
